![]() ![]() ![]() The welder needs to know his stuff and do a clean job. This is the sort of thing we consider on a 22 RF, but not a larger caliber. Line the barrel and re-chamber – common fix on older 22’s and easy to do in the home shop, but may be a bit tricky on this model as stated in a previous post I think they offered replacements at one time. Re-barrel – that means scrounging up a replacement barrel. The up side is you can’t go very far wrong where value is concerned. The down side is, no return on investment if you repair and sell. The model 12 Remington is a neat little pump action 22 as I recall.īased on the condition you describe the gun has minimal value on the collectors market. Ok, you have a beat up old 22 with firing pin damage to the chamber, rather common question. Thank you for any advice on repair or barrel availability. Is there any practical way to repair this? I like the rifle because it is small and light weight plus it has sentimental value.I would even replace the barrel if I could find one in decent shape.Would a hexagon barrel interchange with the round version? The firing pin has gouged a burr into the top of the the outer edge of the chamber where the rim would normally seat is corroded leaving very little support for the rim on the bullet. Prior to 1968, they didn't put serial numbers on very many of the 55s.I have an old model 12 Remington 22 rifle which belonged to my dad.It shoots 22 short long or long rifle.Last patent date on it is 1912.It has the round barrel with a ser# of 542xxx.It is marked RW above the serial number. The butt plate is marked Winchester (!)ĭad picked it up years ago.The rifle has very little finish left.In fact it appears to have been fairly rusty at one time and someone cleaned it up.probably was stored in the barn loft after some kid shot the neighbors dog. the fact that it has a serial number indicates that it's likely a post-1968 shotgun. Are you sure there aren't any other letters or numbers in that serial number? Either way. Marlin 55 - That seems to be a non-compliant serial number. (That 'A' matters, if you are going to sell it or repair it.Same basic design, but with some important internal differences.) ![]() Winchester Model 62 - That serial number indicates that it is actually a Model 62 A. Serial numbers were not sequential, so only Winchester can be more specific (if they even have the records). and 20 years later, it was a re-badged Glennfield model 60 semi-auto. For example, the Western Field "model 50" was a Browning-designed, Stevens-built pump shotgun. The Western Field shotguns included models from nearly every manufacturer, and they sometimes used the same model numbers over again. Western Field Double - You'll need to provide much more information, including photographs. So, you have to go with an approximate year. H&R Topper - Older H&R date codes are not as straight-forward as they may seem. I'm bored, and trying to stay away from the crap my wife is watching on tv. I know some of them probably do not have a lot of monetary value but I would still like to know an approximate value if possible for my own knowledge. These are the ones that I am mainly curious about. I know I will probably never know the latter but would like to know as much about them as possible.Īny help with information on the guns is appreciated. Most of these guns have been handed down to my from my late grandfather so I dont know exactly when they were manufactured or when/where he obtained them from. I am mainly curious as to finding out the year of manufacture (as close as possible) for my own knowledge. You'll have to go to a bookstore and buy a reference book, or post a partial SN on line and ask someone who has one of the reference books to look it up for you. Winchesters made after the 1960's have no on line data that I've ever located. Some limited runs used different systems, but it works for most. For example if the 1st 2 numbers are 25, the gun was built in 1975. Just subtract the 1st 2 digits of the SN from 100. ![]() Most Marlins made after 1972 have an easy date code built into the SN. Here I think.Ĭlick on the specific rifle for a SN range and the dates made for the Rugers. Ruger lists a manufacturing date somewhere on their website. Or if not the original barrel which happens quite often on 870's and other shotguns. If you find one with no date code you'll need to contact Remington. For about 2 years, 1990-91 I think they temporarily stopped dating the barrels. As long as it is the original barrel this is pretty accurate. Remigtons have a date code on the barrel. ![]()
